A Tribute to My Mother Who Was Taken By Cancer in 2002
By Becky Walters
She was a wife, mother, grandmother and my best friend. She was also a cancer patient. The only comment she made about her chemotherapy was that she got cold while she was taking treatments. It was mother's hope that her LapQuilts she so often made for others taking chemotherapy was a warm solution for the discomfort of other cancer patients. No matter how much pain or lack of energy mother experienced, you would always see her busy making a lap quilt for yet someone else. She was so fond of all the nurses in the chemo lab, that during her four year tenure on chemo, several of the nurses gave birth and she was always there with a new quilt for the new baby. Lap Quilts are a source and creative/effective way to give warmth and support to others who are going through chemotherapy or other difficult cancer treatmenets.

You can join us as a volunteer to make and donate handmade lap quilts for area cancer patients, both adults and children. The lap quilts are given free to people within our area. By providing these quilts, we hope to bring physical comfort to those dealing with cancer as well as a spiritual comfort in knowing that the Lord is with them in their struggle.

You can help by sending a simple lap quilt or quilt material to:

Call or e-mail me if you have questions or have special requests.
May God bless you and your giving, caring heart in whatever community service project you choose.
Special note: Hospitals, chemotherapy labs, and medical staff cannot accept lap quilts with a smell of smoke, strong detergents, or perfume. Many patients sense of smell is affected by chemotherapy and these smells can cause them much distress. Each quilt should have an attached 3 x 5 card or piece of paper with your name, address, phone and e-mail if you have one.
What Cancer Cannot Do:
Cancer is so limited...it cannot cripple Love, shatter Hope, corrode Truth, destroy Peace, kill Friendship, suppress memories, silence Courage, invade the Soul, steal eternal Life, or conquer the Spirit. -Author unknown.
